Trekkies would be psyched to know Star Trek 3 begins filming this week. ‘Star Trek Beyond’ as it will be titled, is the third film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise and has the cast of the previous two films reprise their roles as the crew of the Starship Enterprise.
The film has led to many delays during pre-production which was set to begin filming in April. Roberto Orci was writing the script as well as set to direct. Paramount scrapped the script and let go of Orci. The actor’s as well demanded pay rises since their star power had been raised; Chris Pine helming Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Zoe Saldana scoring big with Guardians of the Galaxy. Fortunately all these disputes were settled and production is moving forward.
J.J. Abrams will not be returning as director, since he’s preoccupied with responsibilities on Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Abrams will however serve as producer of the film. Justin Lin has been signed on as director and is known for his work on the Fast and the Furious franchise, whilst Simon Pegg and Doug Jung have written the script.
If this news wasn’t exciting enough, lead actors Pine and Quinto signing on for a fourth film will leave you Stoked!
Star Trek 3 will release in theaters on July 8, 2016.
